Geek Chic

Fashion for the Stylish Student

Music to Match the Look:
"Remember Me feat. Jessie J" x Daley

This set's inspiration came from starting this (summer) semester in college. After a short pre-summer break, it's back to the chopping block. If anyone is like me, procrastination is your worst enemy...waiting until the last minute to study seems to be a situation I find myself in quite often (like today, smh). To keep my focus, I like to study at my campus library or at a local coffee shop (like Dunkin' Donuts or Starbucks). If any of you frequent these places, you know that they can get quite cold...because of this factor, whenever I go out to study I like to dress for the artificial climate .
Styling
I chose to style this look extremely laid back, I went with a Brian Litchenberg graphic sweatshirt paired with leather pants. The ease of the sweatshirt is heightened by the flare of these leather-coated pants. To keep this look effortless, I didn't want to accessorize too much. Keeping it, simple I chose  faux gauges for earrings and a few midi rings.
Shoes & Handbag
For this look, I wanted to choose a boot that would be comfortable, warm, and way more fashionable than UGGs...I decided to pair this set with Minnetonka fringed boots in a caramel tone to add a little color to the entire look. Since this look is for a study session, I would wear an over-sized bag so that I could carry all of my school supplies (instead of wearing a backpack).
Beauty
I normally wear my hair in a messy bun when I'm studying so that my hair isn't a distraction...for this set, I decided to go with a "tousled topknot" styled bun because of its polished look. Summer is the perfect season to flaunt bright colors, and what better way to flaunt than with brightly colored nails? I don't normally suggest nail colors but for this set I wanted to pick a color that would accent this look. I chose a pink in the shade "Chasity" by Essie

Summer Sensations! Swimwear Edition (No. Uno)

...because its summer and the memories are just waiting to happen

I was asked to dedicate a post on styling swimsuits for summer, I thought this would be a great opportunity to extended my summer theme.
The following posts will be a set collection on:
"How to Style": Summer Swimwear
I'll show you how to wear your swimsuit in style :)

Music to Match the Look:
"Laredo" x Band of Horses

During the summer season, a popular pastime is to go to the beach. I wanted to do a set collection on styling swimwear and being a South Florida native, I've been around the beach scene my whole life. Whenever I go to the beach I still put effort into my outfit, although you're going to be in the water, at some point you may go eat or shop on the strip. Especially in areas like Miami Beach, you want to appear fashionable...you never know who you're going to meet ;)
Styling:
I chose this vibrant yellow fringe bikini for this set, this color would look good on women of any skin color. Yellow is a color that signifies summer, I think this color is perfect for a day on the beach. To accentuate this bikini, I chose to pair it with an Aztec printed cover-up. Wearing an over-sized shawl like this provides the perfect amount of coverage, while showing off your summer body.
Shoes:
"Strappy Flat Sandals" by Zara

Summer Sensations! Swimwear Edition (No. Due)

Sandy Toes & Salty Kisses

Music to Match the Look:
"Alone Together" x Fall Out Boy

This goes out to all my fellow rocker chicks, I wanted to style something edgy so I decided to go with a Wildfox tankini top and high-waisted (graphic print) bottoms.
I love this look , its a bit retro..the sunnies give off a hippie vibe, they remind me of John Lennon. I decided to style this as a swimsuit only and just add a few accessories. Because of the rock & roll inspiration I had while styling this, I decided to make black the main color so that the bottoms are the focal point. I chose to accessorize this look with black jewelery,  I fell in love with these gun-stud earrings and they look awesome with a messy bun because you'll actually be able to see them. I also chose stack-able bracelets and matte black sandals.

Summer Sensations! Swimwear Edition (No. Tre)

My Heart Sleeps by the Sea...

Music to Match the Look:
"Blown Away" x Carrie Underwood

I styled this swimsuit with some bohemian inspiration.
This a perfect outfit for a lunch date on the beach, the maxi skirt and vest builds an outfit around your bikini and the denim compliments this ombre dip-dyed fabric. I know a lot of people wonder why you should put so much effort into what you wear to the beach but, dressing for a day at the beach is one of the best events to style for. It's important to be prepared, you never know where you're going to end up once you head out for some sun. You don't want to find yourself at a restaurant in only a bikini and shorts...Plus, beaches like South Beach in Miami, Fl are flooded with celebrities, you never know who you might meet and natives tend to walk the strip in style.
Remember, treat every day like a photo opportunity ;)

Summer Sensations! Swimwear Edition (No. Quattro)

Life's a Wave, Catch It!

Music to Match the Look:
"22" x Taylor Swift

For this set, I decided to pair high-waist swimsuit bottoms with a floral bikini top, the fun thing about picking swimwear is the aspect of mixing and matching. I decided to go with a light blue and floral pattern because this color would look great on any skin complexion. This is more a relaxed outfit, instead of pairing this with pants or a skirt, I wanted to style this swimsuit with a denim button-up shirt. These swimsuit bottoms are high-waisted so they provide more coverage than a regular bikini, you wouldn't be as exposed in this as you would be in the latter. I chose to style this look with black strapped sandals and I would wear a necklace like the one in the photo (above). I also chose to style this look with a metallic Michael Kors bag and a pink lip

I would personally wear something like this to meet up with my friends at a bar or a seaside fast-food restaurant like Johnny Rockets.

Top Ten Beauty Picks!

Ten of My Favorite Beauty Products & How I Use Them
...links are in red, click for more info :)

I.
I use this product EVERYDAY, it's something I absolutely cannot live without. This solution can be used in a variety of ways however, there are three specific ways I apply Fix +
i. Spray all over face before applying make-up (before primer, foundation, etc.)
ii. Spray after make-up is finished to set and rejuvenate (I also carry this with me throughout the day and use it whenever I want to rehydrate and revitalize my make-up)
- This is a technique that should always be used (alone or paired with techniques I or III)
iii. Spray directly onto brush (188 MAC Duo Fibre Brush, F80 Sigma Flat Kabuki Brush, or E.L.F Studio Powder Brush), apply foundation onto damp brush, then apply product onto face...after the foundation is applied evenly spray a generous amount of Fix + onto brush and stipple the damp brush around your face to help create a dewy finish

II.
(this is another product I use everyday) This is only one dollar, it works like a charm and it's a two in one set. I prefer the brow gel in this duo over MAC's Brow Set. Unlike the latter, the E.L.F brow gel holds your brows in place but doesn't make them overly stiff...
I use this product twice during the application of my make-up.
First, Apply my moisturizer and primer
Second, Shape my brows using the "brow gel" side of the wand (let them dry then continue)
Third, Fill in my brows using MAC's "Spiked" Eyebrow Pencil
Fourth, Shape and clean brows using concealer
FifthApply brow gel again to keep brow hairs in place

III
The texture of my hair is crazy, my hair is really thick and curly (naturally). When I straighten my hair it tends to get really frizzy/puffy, I just started to use this product recently and it works really well with my hair. It tames any "fly aways" and keeps my hair shiny/smooth. I apply this onto my hair when I wear it curly or straight, when my hair is curly I like to use this to help keep it soft (all the gel and mouse can make my hair really hard so I use this to balance everything out).

IV.
This is an amazing shadow, it's buildable so you can make it as strong or dull as you want it to be. I love the fact that it's a blend of black and gold because this makes it extremely versatile, you can use it to complete a smokey eye or you can use it on your lid alone to create a more natural look.

V.
This is a great primer because it leaves your skin feeling silky yet it dries as a matte finish and it helps conceal the appearance of pores and fine lines.

VI.
These are my favorite foundation brushes!
(I apply my foundation with these brushes in a stippling motion)

VII
I love this finishing powder, it absorbs any oil/shine left after applying foundation and leaves your face looking extremely matte. (I like to use this as an eyeshadow as well)

VIII
This is an amazing product, it has excellent coverage and is extremely lightweight.

IX
...when used with the Fix + technique (iii) detailed in number one and paired with Rimmel's Stay Matte Pressed Powder, it looks amazing. It's the prefect foundation to create a dewy finish and it looks extremely natural (which is one of my main concerns when choosing a foundation). This product also works well with dry skin!

X.
MAC "Lightscapade" Mineralize Skinfinish
I love to use this product for highlighting purposes, it's the perfect powder to set any creme or liquid concealer/highlighter.

Summer Sensations! How to Style: Cut-Off Shorts (Part I)

Can't You Hear Summer Knocking?
...styling for the HEAT WAVE
This will be a summer collection on "How to Style: Cut-Off Shorts"

Music to Match the Look:
"Litost" x Ambassadors

For this set,
I decided to style with black (distressed&studded) cut-off shorts. I've been wanting to include this graphic "Celine" tee in one of my sets and I figured this would be the perfect look to accent this shirt.
Shoes:
Jeffrey Campbell "Damsel" in floral print
I chose to go with this style of shoe because I knew it would compliment this vibe perfectly...the platform bootie gives a lot of edge and this particular  floral print adds color/depth to the entire outfit.
Accessories:
One thing I love to do is "mix metals"...for a very long time it's been said that "you can't mix silver and gold, etc" well that's WRONG! Mixing your metals (gold, silver, gunmetal, bronze, etc.) adds so much of style and edge to your look. In this set, I chose to show this aspect of my personal style by choosing rings that are pre-mixed and a leather wrap-around watch bracelet. Leather bracelets are another one of those staple pieces that can add a sense of style and character to your outfit.  I chose a sideways cross chain as a necklace, it's simple yet stylish (this type of neck-wear will help accentuate your look).
